Wouldn’t you know it?  I knew my water heater needed to be replaced soon.  But I was working for subsistence wages in a temp job since losing my full time job in 2007.  There was no extra cash around to do this home improvement that might mean boiling water on the stove if I didn’t address it.

I also was planning to eventually buy a tankless water heater.  These are the ones that instantly heat your water on demand.  They save about a third of energy costs with every monthly bill and six gallons a day on water use – when you don’t run the tap so long waiting for the hot water to arrive you save there too). Topping that all off, there is a federal tax credit of $300 in 2009 for purchasing this technology and a store in Portsmouth is offering these heaters in a pre-purchase sale: you order it now with a $400 down payment today, you get the water heater at 15% off and the tax credit next year.  So clearly, with fast cash I could swing this deal.  The total cost for the heater with installation is $1200.

This is an investment that will pay me back over time.  So I turned to Norfolk Car Title Loans for a $400 on my 2002 Camry.  The online application allowed me to avoid going to one of those storefront car title places on Brickell Road.  It took 20 minutes to fill out and I got the money the next day in my bank account.

This auto title loan in this time will turn into a net savings – and I’m doing my bit for the environment at the same time.
